SOUND burst onto the London vocal scene 18 months ago with one simple ambition: to sing pop, funk and soul repertoire to highest standard possible.

The group was inspired by some of Europe’s leading vocal music festivals, where contemporary repertoire commands the same skill, polish and poise as classical music (with a lot more soul and groove!)

Founders Liz Swain and Woody Lewenstein set out to create a new group with the same energy and ambition, bringing together 25 advanced singers from across London to form SOUND.

The group’s first gig was a hit, bringing audiences to their feet with numbers from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Liane La Havas and Janelle Monae. And since then the group has diversified even further – tackling Finnish a cappella and experimental pieces with beatboxing and body percussion!

As well as inspiring individual singers to push themselves, the group takes pride in shining a spotlight on up-and-coming arrangers – providing another route to get their music heard beyond the traditional publishing houses. It has also evolved into a supportive network for its members, many of whom work in the creative arts.

SOUND are kicking off their summer with a performance at Voices Now. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect on the day!

The group is also currently auditioning new members, so if you’d like to get involved, contact info@soundchoir.com.

“Voices Now is about celebrating everything that’s amazing about the human voice, so we’re excited to be part of the action! And we’re looking forward to hanging out with so many people who are as passionate about singing as we are!”
